¿Qué es el Bushcraft?

Bushcraft is a premeditated situation, one we choose personally and voluntarily, where it's not about surviving an emergency, but rather about living on our own in nature for a specific amount of time.

We should not confuse Survival Techniques with Bushcraft; the two are related knowledge, but they are not the same.

Survival is a situation that comes to us without seeking it, that is, it is due to an emergency in the natural environment such as getting lost, an accident, an emergency, or a catastrophe.

The term Bushcraft comes from the words "bush" and "craft." It could be translated as "bush skills."

For many, bushcraft is a way of life. It's about living like our ancestors, in the most natural way possible, without so much technology, internet, and USB chargers. It's a more one-on-one relationship with nature and its constituent elements. Mastering this knowledge and the appropriate techniques requires training and time.

Bushcraft knowledge basically includes everything you need to live and survive in the wild. Think of using basic tools like knives and axes, starting a fire, finding (and preparing) food, and building a shelter.

Bushcraft takes you back to your roots, to the way our ancestors lived. You'll make your own cutlery, prepare your own food over a fire you built, and sleep under a roof made of pine branches. This allows you to experience maximum freedom and contact with nature.

Bushcraft seeks to achieve self-sufficiency in the most minimalist way possible, using primitive techniques like our ancestors.

The basic techniques we should learn are:

  • Obtaining food through hunting, fishing, or gathering.
  • Collect and purify water.
  • Make a fire and cook.
  • Build a shelter.
  • Create functional utensils with natural resources.
  • Land navigation.
  • First aid
  • Knots.

Basic and fundamental materials to get started:

  • To make fire (ferrocerium)
  • To collect and make potable water
  • Tarp.
  • Rope and fishing line.
  • Lighting elements.
  • Knife
  • Bushcraft axe.
  • Saw.
  • Backpack
  • Kit

Without thinking of lost tribes, still present in many rural areas of different countries, buscraft has been a way of life for hundreds of years, preserving traditions and knowledge in close contact with nature.
